Breeze Easy’s Boppy O (owned in partnership with John Oxley) delivered an impressive performance to take the Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park on June 3.

Winner of a five furlong sprint on dirt on his two-year-old debut, the Mark Casse trainee captured the With Anticipation Stakes (G3) at Saratoga last year in his first try on the lawn.

This year, after opening the season with a fourth in the Kitten’s Joy Stakes (G3), Boppy O has been a model of consistency taking third in the Colonel Liam Stakes, and second in the Equistaff Sophomore Turf Stakes – beaten just a neck – and English Channel Stakes, conceding weight to his rivals on each occasion.

In the Jersey Derby, Boppy O sat off a rapid pace, moved into contention at the head of the stretch, and delivered a powerful closing effort to run down odds-on favorite, Talk of the Nation – winner of the Columbia Stakes on his previous start. Covering the mile in a sharp 1:34.02, Boppy O earned a career high Beyer Speedfigure of 93, one of the best put up by a three-year-old turf horse this year.

Now a winner of $268,978, Boppy O now points to the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) run over 10 furlongs at Belmont Park on July 8.
